Dalitoy / Toor Dal Curry / Thove
Dalitoy is a "God Father" among all konkani food. It is the most favorite dish and prepared atleast once in a week. Very simple, tasty and easy recipe. Some of them add ginger / Alle to it but I dont. My husband loves it so much that I prepare it atleast twice a week and it goes well with all side dishes.
Ingredients:
Seasoning :
Red Chillies | 3-4 |
Coconut Oil / Normal Oil | 2 tbsp |
Curry Leaves | 7-8 |
Mustard Seeds / Saasama | 1 tbsp |
Green Chilly | 2-3 splitted vertically |
Cumin Seeds / Jeera | 1 tbsp |
Others :
Toor Dal / Tori Dali | 1 glass |
Turmeric Powder / Haldi | 1 Small in size |
Asafoetida | 1/2 tsp |
Coconut Oil / Normal Oil | 1 tbsp |
Salt | as needed |
Wash and Soak Toor Dal for 20-30 minutes so as to take less time to boil.
Method :
1. Take toor dal, turmeric, oil and 3 glass of water in a cooker and wait for 2 whistles. After 2 whistles wait until it cools. Open the lid and switch on the stove again. Add Asafoetida and Salt. Allow to boil.
2. While it is boiling. Take a spatula and add coconut oil or normal oil or ghee into it. When it boils add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilies, green chilies and curry leaves. Wait until color changes to brown.
4. Switch off the stove and serve hot.
Points To Remember :
- We are adding turmeric powder and oil while boiling toor dal as it helps to boil fast.
